1. Intro.

Most maples grow best in moist, fertile soil.

Red maples (Acer rubrum) and Silver Maples (Acer saccharinum) will grow in wet sites

or sites with compacted soil.

2. Verticillium Wilt

Verticillium wilt disease can be a problem, especially when the root system is damaged

by construction or sidewalks.

3. Girdling roots

Girdling roots can be a problem, especially in Norway maples (Acer platanoides).

The trunks will not flare at the base but will look straight like telephone poles.
