Unit 17 (017)

1. Vinca rosea

Vinca rosea is a name often used for Catharanthus roseus (Unit 059), which is an annual that is commonly cultivated. Taxonomists now keep it separate from Vinca.

2. Mahonia and Berberis

In the past, and in most reference books, Mahonia is kept as a genus separate from

Berberis. Recently, taxonomists have included Mahonia in Berberis. This is not very

helpful in landscape use, since Mahonia can get lost among all the Berberis or

barberries. For sales purposes, it is best to keep Mahonia separate as it has been

known for a long time.
