1. Malvaceae or Mallow Family
This includes hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) as well as the common lawn weed called
mallow or cheeses (Malva neglecta). Malva moschata and other species are
being used as smaller sized plants than the tall hollyhock.
Hibiscus moscheutos is a hardy perennial hibiscus that has large showy flowers like
the more tropical species.
2. Solanaceae or Nightshade Family
This family includes edible tomatoes and potatoes as well as many poisonous
plants. Unit 059 includes a number of plants like tobacco (Nicotiana) and Petunia,
while Unit 060 covers Capsicum or Peppers. Unit 072 includes Solandra, a Mexican
vine with large yellow trumpet shaped flowers.
Datura inoxia is a bushy annual with show white trumpet shaped flowers, and
fruit with poisonous seeds.
