CD and DVD Image Name Abbreviations:

These abbreviations were selected so images would sort alphabetically

in folders read by the Paintshop Pro graphics editing program. That is

the program used to edit all the images on the CD set. It is available

from www.jasc.com. The order is also the order which is used in plant

id lectures.

These name abbreviations are used in the database to sort plants so the

scientific names are in alphabetical order. They are also used in

SaylorPlants visual basic code.

You can also use this code to quickly search for a genus and species in

 SaylorPlants.

This code is also essential for burning CD’s, since a few names with

book references would go beyond 64 characters, which is the limit

on name length.

AA01 = Name or Title Slide (Not on CD set)

Dates use 1st 3 letters of Month (ex. Jan, Feb)

Plant Names use: 1st 5 letters of the Genus name;

            the 1st 4 letters of the species name;

            the full name of the Cultivar, Subspecies,

                        Variety, Forma

With over 50,000 images in my collection, a few plants will still have

 the full genus name used and the Cultivar may be abbreviated.

 The first 1,000 images had to be completely renamed, and I lost track of

 some after that.

of over 1000 genus names. A few species are also included. The fifth

letter is changed to keep the names alphabetical.
