It isn't the most logistically easy place to get to an co-ordinate, which is why I think it took me about 6 years of living in California to finally get the needed campsite reservations in order to complete this trail!

Long story short – last year my husband and I had planned to hike the TCT during Christmas week, but we both caught a horrible stomach virus the day before we were scheduled to leave, so we had to cancel the trip. It’s the first island I visited as a kid, and coming back as adult was just as fun. We spent a short 48 hours in Catalina Island — enough to getaway and rejuvenate. A quick ferry ride, Catalina Island is only 75 minutes from Los Angeles. The heart of Catalina is Avalon, California — a one-by-one mile radius of beach, sun and celebration. Trans-Catalina Trail is a 37.2-mile trail which traverses Santa Catalina Island from Avalon on the eastern tip of Starlight Beach at the western end. On reaching the end of the hike, hikers need to make their way back to Two Harbors to catch a boat back to the mainland, which adds another nine miles, making the total mileage a bit over 46 miles.
