Since its early days, the reach of Pets In The Park has now grown with the group becoming a fully registered charity, and operating in 5 states of Australia (NSW, VIC, QLD, TAS & ACT) with 7 regions and still growing, due to the need of homeless people and those at risk of homelessness to get help, particularly veterinary assistance, in caring for their pets. Pets In The Park (Brisbane) May 4, 2016 · Pets in the Park is a national charity that supports, build relationships with and improves the wellbeing of homeless people in society living with animal companions. Women aged over 55 are the fastest-growing group of homeless Australians (ABS 2011 vs ABS 2016). 1 in 201 Australians are currently homeless (ABS 2016). In 2017-2018: 44,116 people requesting short-term or emergency accommodation did not receive any or were only given a referral (AIHW 2018) Pets of the Homeless Australia provides food, veterinary care and other support to pet owners in need. Volunteers who assisted at past Homeless Connect events found it a rewarding experience, so far we've helped more than 20,000 people to connect with services that would have otherwise been out of reach.
